Matt began his career managing servers and writing web applications at the University of Minnesota. He quickly rose through the ranks to Biomedical Informatics Manager. In this precursor to analytics, Matt leveraged his IT experience to use big data to solve complex problems.
Upon moving to the private sector, Matt led a variety of projects as Security and Privacy Manager with Deloitte & Touche. Working with diverse clients from Fortune 50 perennials to top Silicon Valley technology firms, Matt refined his skills and solidified his passion for information security. Upon leaving the consulting world, Matt was Director of Cyber Security for a large health insurance company, where he led cyber security, architecture, and consulting teams. Matt left his corporate role in 2016 to take the plunge and start Astute Security.
In his spare time (when he’s not rooting for the Green Bay Packers and Golden Gophers), Matt is most likely planning a culinary experiment, traveling to an exotic destination, or both. Though he’s a Wisconsin native, Matt has spent the last 20 years in Minnesota and no matter how far he may roam, he always finds new things to explore and enjoy in the North Star State.
The Astute team occupies a prime location in the heart of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. The creative energy that permeates this area is a perfect fit for a team that is driven to find new ways of addressing the most challenging problems faced by security teams.
With neighbors that include The Anchor Fish & Chips, Dangerous Man Brewing, and our in-house dining option–Erté, Astute’s offices are in an ideal location to host friends both old and new. Whether you want to talk about the correct way to serve a Manhattan, the Minneapolis music scene, or the optimal way to develop a comprehensive cyber security program, Astute HQ is positioned to deliver.
